Perhaps the best known are Johnny Crow's Garden and Johnny Crow's Party which he wrote and illustrated for his sons. Years later-, he created Johnny Crow's New Garden for his grandson.
Leonard Leslie Brooke was born on September 24, 1862. He studied at the Royal Academy in London, and earned his reputation as a portrait painter before producing his first book for children in 1897- The Nursery Rhyme Book edited by Andrew Lang.
